SSD's communications and public information office is responsible for maintaining effective communications within Starkville School District. It also serves parents and other members of the community and the news media by delivering clear, timely and accurate information about SSD. We communicate the objectives and accomplishments of SSD so that the public effectively understands district functions and goals.
The communications office also encourages and coordinates news coverage with media, arranges staff interviews and provides responses to requests for information to promote full public understanding of SSD issues, policies and accomplishments.
Our role in SSD's success:
Produce publications with substantive and timely information that market the strength and diversity of SSD's academic, artistic, athletic and extra-curricular programs and promote SSD's numerous awards, honors and accolades earned by SSD's students, teachers, and administrators.
Support the individual schools, teachers, principals, superintendent, school board, and other executive staff in actively communicating Board actions, new policies and procedures and SSD programs.
Build community support for the Starkville School District.

Organize and coordinate opportunities to invite our business community into our schools to experience first-hand dynamic teaching that is rigorous and relevant combined with innovative technology designed for 21st century classroom instruction to create the ultimate learning opportunity for students in the Starkville School District.
Provide timely and complete responses to requests for information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
How we communicate
In order to provide timely information both internally and externally, SSD communicates using the following methods:
A weekly e-newsletter, The Starkville Spark, is distributed to district employees, to parents, elected officials, faith leaders, business leaders, realtors and volunteers and anyone who requests it. To sign up for the newsletter, click here.
A Web site with press releases and other information, including important dates and announcements is updated almost daily.
The Communications/Public Information Office also engages our parents, community and public education supporters through our collaboration with Starkville Parents for Public Schools, Starkville Foundation for Public Education, and Starkville Parent Teacher Organization.
